Deep Forest

The complexity of an image so simple is rather stunning; the artist that created the piece is clearly a master. The overhanging lighting is gorgeous, boldly peeking through the trees and spilling onto the backs of the deer; but questionably, very, very bright lighting shines on the pathway and illuminates it, but does not appear in the grass except once or twice. The white of the light overhanging the trees matches the light 'peeking through' and illuminating the pathway, but appears rarely in the grass. This could be changed by applying more dramatic white lighting in the grass , as well, in areas further from the foreground. The flow of the artwork is excellent, for the pathway carries the viewer's eyes into the depth of the forest. The use of hatching in this image in the far forest and on the pathway is commendable, for it gives a 'faded' feeling to the viewer, and makes the rest of the forest seem to be limitless. The added texture of the flowers adds a lovely effect to the image, and overall, the image is fairly decent eye candy. As light is emphasized in this drawing, there is a lack of contrast between light and dark. Perhaps the artist could experiment with shading the work more dramatically to provide contrast to the dramatic lighting? Either way, this piece contains wonderful components to appeal a viewer, though lacking in originality for a concept so plain and simple, has a wonderful skill displayed.
